PFLAG meeting on the church and gays
The Oregon Central Coast Chapter of PFLAG (Parents, Family & Friends of Lesbians and Gays) meets at St. Stephen’s Church at SW 9th & Hurbert in Newport on Wed. November 11 at 7 p.m. This month’s guest speaker, Karen Damman, was a gay and partnered Methodist minister who went through the discipline process of that denomination based on her sexual orientation. The program will include a discussion of churches in Lincoln County that have taken action to be officially welcoming of LGBT Christians and seekers.
PFLAG is a national organization dedicated to improving support, education and advocacy for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people and their family and friends. Although gay teens have higher incidences of depression, homelessness and suicide attempts, those who receive support from their families, schools and communities are able to survive the stress and challenges far better.
PFLAG provides factual and helpful information for parents whose children or teens believe they may be among the minority in gender orientation or identity. PFLAG can connect these parents with others who have dealt with the issues and understand their concerns.
PFLAG meetings include an informational program and time for small group discussions. Interested and supportive people of all ages, gay and straight, parents and friends, are warmly invited to attend.
For more information or to receive the current PFLAG newsletter, call Jeanne St.John at 265-7194.
Donations may be sent to PO Box 2172, Newport, OR 97365.

I filmed a young college group from Forest Grove who were celebrating and/by bringing awareness for Equal Rights for all, (by) gathering on a busy corner downtown Portland and letting folks know more about Gay Rights.

This is a 4 minute video of them rallying with signs and positive energy by Pioneer Square on 11.14.09.
